Thousands of devotees thronged the Tiruchendur sea on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of Ayya Vaigunder.

188th Birthday Celebration of Ayya Vaigunder

Thousands of devotees from different parts of Tamil Nadu attended the 188th birth anniversary celebration of Ayya Vaikunder on Tuesday. As the birthday celebrations began at 2 am in his native town on the coast of Tiruchendur, thousands of devotees attended. Other rituals were performed after the reading from the holy book ‘Akilathirattu’.

17 days of Thiru Edu reading takes place. On the 17th day, the consecration ceremony takes place. The reading ceremony of Thiru Edu at Samitopu Ayya Vaikunder Anbuvanam started the day before yesterday. It was inaugurated by Guru Bala Prajapati Adikalar. Vijayanagari Rajapasam and Thangeswari recite Thiruatin. On this occasion, special services were held for Ayya at 5 pm. Thiru Edu Reading is held at 5.30 PM for 17 consecutive days.

Professor R. Dharma Rajini, Mumbai Ayyavu, Venimal, Marthandam Chelliah Nadar, Maharajan Ashari and many others participated in the function. On the 15th day Thirukalyana Thiruedu reading and on the 17th day the consecration ceremony takes place. The festival team is making arrangements for this.

The festival lasts for 11 days till 20th. On the 18th, the reading of the scriptures will take place. On the 19th, there will be a gift giving ceremony at 9 am, milk donation at 3 pm, reading of Thiru Edu at 4 pm, Pattabishekam and Thiruvilakku service at 7 pm. On 20th morning and evening workshop, training, Bhavani arrival in Ayya Indra Vahanam at 5 o’clock. This vehicle reaches the temple via Mamututkadai, Keilavilai, Ida Blockam Sri Pathirakali Amman Temple, Banganivilai. At 9.00 p.m. there will be schooling and at 9.30 p.m. Annadanam will be held.

Aiya Siva…Shiva.. Arakara…arakara… went in procession towards Samithop. Dressed in saffron, they carried saffron flags in their hands. Some devotees carried sandalwood on their heads. In front of the procession, the girls marched with a bang. From the Nagaraja Temple, the procession proceeded to Sami Grove via Kottar, Italakudi, Susindram, Vallukkamparai, Etankadu. Devotees gathered in all the areas where the procession went and gave an enthusiastic welcome. Betel leaves, betel leaves, fruits were welcomed at many places. Buttermilk, cold drinks and refreshments were given to the participants in the procession. When the procession reached Samitopu chief padi, Ayya had a service there. They were waiting in a long line for darshan. It took around 2 hours for one to get darshan. Tonight there will be a Ayyavahi conference and art program at Samitopu Art Gallery. There was also a change in the traffic ahead of the festival. Bus traffic operating on Eathangadu-Samitopu road was diverted from this morning. Also, vehicles were prohibited from entering the Pati campus area. Heavy security arrangements were made for the event under the supervision of District Superintendent of Police Randu Harikiran Prasad. Not only Samitoppa Pathi but also Padi and Shadow Padhi all over the district, special worships were held today on Ayya Avatara Day. Vahana Bhavani was also held along with programs such as pronunciation, practical training, and workshops.
