Lord Vishnu incarnated in the form of a huge fish at the beginning of Sat Yuga. During a huge flood, Lord Vishnu, who took the incarnation of Macha or fish, saved Manu and other lives from the boat. Manu was the first man of this world. It is believed that it was through him that the human race proliferated. During this great flood, he took one of every kind of fish in the world and put it in the boat. Lord Vishnu in the form of a fish helped him to travel to the new world.
Kurma avatar
Lord Vishnu took his second incarnation in the form of Kurma or giant tortoise. Mandirasala hill station was also used as a tool to store milk. But the ocean of milk was so deep that the Mantrasala mountain began to sink into the ocean. Then Lord Vishnu took the form of a giant tortoise and carried the mountain on his skin.
Varaha Avatar
This is the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The word Vara means wild boar. Lord Vishnu took this avatar to kill the demon Hiranyaksha who had taken this world under the cosmic domain. After killing the Hiranyaksha through the form of Vara, Lord Vishnu restored the world to where it was.
Narasimha avatar
This is the fiercest avatar of Lord Vishnu. Narasimha means half man and half lion. Lord Vishnu took this avatar to kill the demon Hiranyakashipu in Sat Yuga. He was blessed with the boon that he could not be killed by any man or animal, inside or outside the house, day or night, on earth or in the sky, with any weapon. So Lord Vishnu, who took the form of half man and half lion, at dusk, put him on his lap in the demon’s house and killed him with his claw.
Vamana avatar
Lord Vishnu took this incarnation in the Treta Yuga. Once upon a time a demon king named Bali came to this world. He became so powerful that he forcibly brought the three worlds under his control. However, he was a good king who believed in dharma. So Lord Vishnu, who took the human form of Vamana or Dwarf Brahmin, asked him for three feet of land. Bali agreed to this. As soon as God took His feet, He took over the heavens and the nether world. Realizing that it was Lord Vishnu, Bali gave his head to take the next eight. As soon as Lord Vishnu stepped on Bali’s head, Bali entered the world and attained moksha.
An incarnation of Parasurama
In Hinduism, Parasuram is the first Shatriya Brahmin. Parasuraman incarnated to end the rule of Shatriyas who were doing anarchy. After worshiping Lord Shiva, Parasuraman received an ax as a gift. With that, he wiped out the Shatriya dynasty from this world.
Rama avatar
Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, destroyed the demon king Ravana. When Ravana took Rama’s wife to Sri Lanka, Rama came looking for her. After a great war, he defeated Ravana and established a good government.
Krishna avatar
Krishna Avatar is a popular avatar of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu incarnated in the form of Krishna during the Twabara Yuga. He was born as Krishna to kill the evil king Kamsa. It is noteworthy that this king was Krishna’s maternal grandfather. Krishna himself played an important role in the Mahabharata. Being Arjuna’s guru, he helped the Pandavas win the Kurukshetra war.
Vaikunda Avatar
Ayya Vaikunda Avataram or Vaikunda Jayanti (Tamil: Ayya Vaikunda Avatar or Vaikunda Jayanti – Avatar of Vaikunda Jayanti) is a festival celebrated by the followers of Ayyavahi on the 20th day of the Tamil month of Masi. It is said that Lord Narayana himself incarnated as Vaikundar as the son of Adinarayana and Thirumala Mahaletsumi in Makara karuvarai in Tiruchendur sea as his tenth incarnation for the betterment of the people of this world. On Kollam year 1008 on the 20th day of the Tamil month Masi (Friday 1st March 1833 AD) Tiruchendur rose from the sea. Narayana took human form as Bandaram at Dharuvaiyur on the seaside to destroy the evil power of Kali and turn Kali Yuga into Dharma Yuga.
